The Old Cat An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old; she could not run quickly, and she could not bite, because she was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse; she jumped and caught the mouse. But she could not bite it; so the mouse got out of her mouth and ran away, because the cat could not bite it. Then the old woman became very angry because the cat had not killed the mouse. She began to hit the cat. The cat said, "Do not hit your old servant. I have worked for you for many years, and I would work for you still, but I am too old. 成为湖泊
一个年老的印度大师对总是抱怨的弟子感到厌倦了。有一天，他派他的弟子去买盐。弟子回来后，大师吩咐这个不快活的年轻人抓一把盐放在一杯水中，然后喝了它。
“味道如何？”大师问。
“苦。”

大师又吩咐年轻人抓一把盐放进附近的湖里。弟子于是把盐倒进湖里，老者说：“再尝尝湖水。”
年轻人捧了一口湖水尝了尝。大师问道：“什么味道？”
“很新鲜。”弟子答道。
“你尝到咸味了吗？”大师问。
“没有。”年轻人答道。
这时大师对弟子说道：“生命中的痛苦就象是盐；不多，也不少。我们在生活中遇到的痛苦就这么多。但是，我们体验到的痛苦却取决于我们将它盛放在多大的容器中。”
